The Greene County softball team’s losing streak ended Wednesday in Roland as Roland-Story topped the Rams 2-1.
The Rams were scoreless until the seventh inning when, with two outs, Emma Saddoris took a walk with bases loaded to bring in a run. The next batter grounded out and the game ended. The win puts the R-S Norsemen at 5-6 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and the Rams at 9-2. The Rams are 12-5 overall.
The Rams had only four hits – three by Carleigh Paup and one from Bailey Godwin. Ram pitcher Marissa Promes allowed three hits. She had one strikeout and four walks. One of the R-S runs was earned. The game was nearly error free, with R-S committing just one. Both teams stranded four runners on base.
The baseball team played in Story City and lost to the Norsemen 13-2 in a game called in the fifth inning on the 10-run rule. The loss was the eighth consecutive for the Rams, who are 3-8 in the HOIAC and 3-11 overall.
The score was 3-2 before the Norsemen came to bat in the bottom of the third inning and scored 10 runs.
The Rams only hit was a single by Alex Rasmussen. Jordan Challen had an RBI.
Riah Nelsen pitched 2-1/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed eight runs, three of them earned, on seven hits and one walk. He had one strikeout. JC Wietl pitched next and gave up four hits and one walk. He hit one batter with a pitch. Dylan McConnell pitched the last 1-1/3 innings. He had one strikeout and no walks, no hits and no runs.
